My Students
My students are a group of enthusiastic middle schoolers who are eager to learn about plants, the food they eat, where our food comes from, and much more. This means getting into the garden and growing things!
Reflecting on the rich diversity of the student body, I envision a multicultural garden which can be an outdoor/indoor learning space for the kids.
The goal of the program at our school is to get the students involved in the various sustainability efforts using our garden. My students, I and a couple of colleagues will maintain the garden space regularly and participate in activities that help link NYC core curriculum concepts to what experience they gain in the garden. Students will benefit from this outdoor learning space because of the hands-on activities they'll participate in. The school garden will benefit the school as well as the community.
My Project
The materials from this project will be used to create an indoor-outdoor garden learning space with a focus on multicultural gardening to reflect the diversity of my students. The items for this projects are just a small start to the tools that the students will need to help create a garden where students will learn, ask questions, engage in discussions and have a hands-on learning experience, which due to COVID, they've missed out on!
