This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Rudolf Steiner said, "The need for imagination, a sense of truth, and a feeling of responsibility-these are the three forces which are the very nerve of education." If my students were to start their own garden they would be able to see first hand these three forces and the miracle that is gardening.

My school looks like a snapshot of the United Nations!

Upon entering the school, you might be surprised to hear many different languages like Bengali, Hindi, Mandarin, Spanish, in our hallways! The diversity of our student population is always apparent and it is what makes our school a vibrant place to learn and teach. My school population totals close to 2,000, but despite the size of my school, our learning community feels like a close knit family. Our "family" includes students who come from high poverty and high need families. Because of this, donated resources go a long way in our school and make a direct impact on students' learning experiences. Receiving donations, also teaches our students valuable lessons about citizenship and community.

My Project

Students will use these resources to help them nurture a lifelong love and respect for the natural world. Students will use these resources to learn what it takes to start and maintain a garden. These resources will help students plant seeds and will ensure that students have the necessary tools to take care of their plantings. Our students have never had a garden box at our school and if given the chance to have one, they will be able to water, weed, and cultivate the growth of seeds with the help of these resources! Students will also use these resources to teach their parents about gardening and their school community. This will strengthen the connections between home and school.

Your donations for our first ever mini-garden will make a direct impact!

Students will be able to develop a relationship with the natural world in an inner city area that has few resources to nurture a love for gardening. Donations for our garden will also afford students the opportunity to engage in learning experiences in a hands on way that will broaden what they are learning about in school. Lastly, your donations will strengthen our school's relationship with parents and our neighborhood.
