Garbage Bags Make Poor Piano Covers

My Students

As the music teacher of the only non-audition based music school in New York City I strive to give my students every opportunity. Our school was opened less than 12 years ago with the mission to give all students, regardless of their prior knowledge, an opportunity to learn and grow in the arts.

95% of the students are of black or Hispanic heritage, and 80% qualify for free or reduced-price lunch.

Although many of our students' math and reading skills fall below grade level, they are intelligent, passionate, and all performers at heart.

My Project

After receiving a grant for pianos, storage became an issue in the classroom. A prior DonorsChoose.org project provided covers for half of our instruments, but we still have 10 pianos each in its own garbage bag stacked on a shelf on the side of my classroom.

The piano covers will keep these instruments safe and extend their life.

These covers are easy to use, easy to store, and easy to clean.

Creating a safe, organized, professional system for handling, managing, and storing the instruments will also help create the culture in the classroom of instrument care. As this culture grows and the students value the instruments more, I believe they will also value their experience with them more. Thank you for your willingness to support this effort!
