This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are second graders from a high poverty school. Our students are very inquisitive and love science, math, reading and hands-on and fast-paced projects; however, funds are limited. We are looking to expand their familiarity with money.

My second grade STEM students will increase their financial literacy by playing Osmo Pizza Co, and their understanding of how an economy works by playing Settlers of Catan Jr.

These students are highly inquisitive and love to learn about what is going on in the world around them. Letting them "run" a pizzeria, make pizzas and give customers change is a great way to teach them about money and let them explore their entrepreneurial side.

My Project

Having access to Osmo Pizza Co. and Settlers of Catan Jr. will allow my students learn about money and making change, as well as how to build an economy.

Gaming gives students a hands on way to help them understand the importance of money and how it is used.

Students will be able to use the Osmo Pizza Co. to make a pizza, then be paid for an order and make change. This helps them to become familiar with the coins and bills, as well as adding and subtracting them. Catan Jr will allow students to collect resources to build an economy. The items in the game are used as currency, this will help with their financial literacy.
