Games to Celebrate Middle School SEL Choices

Help me give my students games to celebrate their SEL choices during the school year.

My Students

Our students come to school every day (with 98.4% attendance) in a diverse, low-income, urban community. Sixty-eight percent are Asian, 14% African-American, 11% Latino, 6% Caucasian, and 1% multiracial.

Our school community supports the whole student academically, physically, and emotionally.

By meeting the needs of our students on many levels, we help them to find success in school and in their community. It is a collective effort to help each of our students become the best people they can be. We try to create a foundation that they will take with them through their education and beyond. As we make the transition back to school in the fall, it is especially important for us to care for all of our students in every way possible.

My Project

For the past several years, with the support of Donors Choose, we have been fortunate to have games and prizes to celebrate our students and their choices as part of our SEL program. Having been out of the classroom for nearly 18 months, our students will be returning and relearning the basics of social interaction and in-school learning.

These games are rewards to celebrate the positive choices our students make when they are back together working in the classroom.

We start the year developing expectations WITH our students and we track those choices that get in the way of creating a positive classroom culture. At the end of each quarter, we celebrate all of our students and all of their positive choices with a day of fun activities that culminates in a raffle drawing for students who made 100% positive choices.

Our joy comes from watching the number of students making 100% positive choices increase every quarter - as students see these amazing prizes, they are motivated to consider their actions and make better choices, so that they get included in the raffle. We are grateful for your consideration in supporting our class, or any other class today!
