My Students
Do you remember what it was like to read a story and have to answer boring questions? Well, I sure do and I want better for my students! Interactive reading games will help build their reading comprehension, yet will not diminish their love of reading like some skill and drill tends to do.
I teach in a Title One school located in a small town in a rural area.
Many of our students come in unprepared, while others are ready to be challenged. Meeting the many different needs can be difficult. These reading games would allow me to partner children on different levels and meet their needs while motivating them at the same time. Children are so accustomed to games and they are a great motivator. The competition factor is there and this will be all my students need to encourage them to enhance their reading skills.
My Project
These 6 interactive reading comprehension games aid in vocabulary development, recalling facts and details, critical thinking, understanding and analyzing text, and drawing conclusions. Not to mention, they build community and teamwork within the classroom. Children are often turned off to reading because we skill and drill them with worksheets. These games will provide a fun, motivating alternative that will get the job done while fostering a love of reading which is so important.
These reading games will provide years of comprehension practice for my students.
I know they enhance the comprehension abilities of my current students and those for years to come.
