My Students

Warning: Upon entering our classroom, you may have to step over many little bodies sprawled out over the floor. They will be deeply engaged in their books and may not notice you have entered the room. You will see students spread throughout the room reading and writing and sharing their excitement with one another.

Every year students come to me with a wide variety of reading abilities.

Some are years above their grade level and others are battling learning disabilities. Some have ADHD and learning has always been hard for them. Others are in various stages of learning English. Some are gifted and some have Autism. All of them are precious.

Regardless of how they come to me, our goal is always the same: to go as far as we can go in our time together. We collaborate, we cheer, we tackle the hard stuff together, and we train ourselves to become life-long learners.

My Project

Students learn best when engaged with peers and sharing discussions about academics. Games provide structure and opportunity to learn through play. Students will have the opportunity to review concepts in a game playing setting, using discussion, repeated practice, and problem solving.

Learning through play engages children and provides multiple opportunities to review and practice their skills.

Providing games in our learning stations will differentiate how our students get to interact with their learning. Problem solving in small groups prepares students for true 21st century learning, and using games make perfect sense.
