My students need board games and card games for our new club! These games help them learn strategy, tactics away from technology and allow them a safe haven (school) to stay at.

My Students
My students come various walks of life: refugees, single parent households and many from poverty. These titles have an affect on them, but it doesn't truly define who they are. They are individuals that have endured a lot in their lives at such a young age. Many come to school with just the opportunity of wanting do better than what they have at home and clinging to that opportunity. School sometimes is the safest place for them and I want it be true in every single aspect. I want it to be where they can not only learn new education materials, but many lessons that they can carry with them throughout their life. I want to provide them with an opportunity that they may never have or may never get in their lives.
My Project
My name is W.P. and I am a teacher offering a new gaming club at my middle school (which is also my Alma Matter). Go Cougars! This club will allow my students (many lower income, single parent households and various ethnicities) a place that they can come to be supported in their growth to challenge their minds, be in a safe environment, learn about new cultures, and experience new games outside of technology. My students deserve the experience of these things before technology overcomes their lives.
Many of my students have never seen or been taught traditional strategic board and card games.
I want to give them that experience of not only learning something new, but also using their minds more than they ever could in front of a TV or computer. This club and the games I will teach my kids will give them ways to interact with others face to face instead of across a screen. The students will also be taught the history behind those games such as the country's origins and the people that played it. We live in a melting pot and the best way for students to see that is through the games that we experienced!
