Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Do you remember what it was like to be in school and practice things like your new vocabulary words or math facts? I am sure you remember having to write them out over and over again using paper and pencil. Did you like it? You could have been using learning games to practice, instead of writing.
I have 30 second grade students enrolled in my classroom for this year.
The students mostly come from low-income homes, and according to the State Board of Education, 99.3% of the students at my school were low-income students in 2009-2010.
All my students are English Language Learners (ELLS), which means that they speak a second language at home that is not English. Due to the fact that they come from low-income homes, it is often a struggle for parents to buy necessary home items. This means that they definitely have no money to spare, to spend on enriching their children’s lives.
My Project
I am requesting your help in bringing educational learning games into my classroom. These games will provide the students with fun and engaging ways to practice math and reading skills. Many students are hands-on learners and they need to be able to use different methods to review and practice what they have learned. These learning games will allow the students to work in small groups or we can use the games to play as a whole class.
With your donations, you have a chance to make learning exciting for these second grade students.
These games will enrich our classroom and show the students that learning can be fun. The bingo games that are literacy related will be used along with our Language Arts program to further develop student comprehension and vocabulary. As I mentioned, my students are learning English as a second language and require a lot of support and repetition with hands-on materials.
