My Project
I teach Gifted and Talented students at six sites in a Title I school district. My Kindergarten-8th grade students would love to play UNO and learn how to play chess. Hands-on learning is proven to be most effective and this project will allow us to bring learning alive.
Both UNO and chess will allow learners to focus on executive functioning skills such as focusing, working memory, self-control, and planning.
Appropriate social interactions are cultivated as students practice taking turns and communicating with their peers. Chess players will also work on their problem-solving and critical thinking skills as learners develop strategies for winning.
