Game Time: Movement and Play in Music Class

Help me give my students the Game Plan Grade 1 Curriculum to incorporate movement and games in to our music class!

My Students

I am the only music teacher in my small town school. I get to teach every single child who comes into my building, all 500 of them! They are creative and bright and incredibly funny; they are constantly making me laugh. In my classroom, we prioritize making music by being tuneful, beatful, and artful and singing and playing with joy!

My students need to learn and explore the world around them by moving, dancing, playing, and creating.

This is especially true of my ADHD and other special needs students who need to learn about subjects by interacting with them in an authentic way.

Providing the supplies my students need to succeed is so important as our students are from a low socioeconomic area, and our school budgets are very limited. Our school is a Title I school where every child receives free breakfast and lunch daily, and many of our students come to school without basic supplies. In our Orff inspired classroom, we focus on making music, moving expressively or with the beat, and out-of-the-box creative thinking to ready my students for high education and life!

My Project

Learning is fun when you’re active and moving! My grade 1 students need the Game Plan curriculum to learn music in an active way!

Today’s students spend WAY too much time sitting!

In my music class, my goal is to keep my kids MOVING. Whether we are playing a singing “tag” game, folk dancing, or moving expressively to music, the movement standards in my curriculum are incorporated in to almost every thing we do.

We need this curriculum to expand our movement repertoire and learn all new songs and games to keep us moving in movement class. The Game Plan curriculum is an active plan that not only covers our standards but gives students fun, engaging activities to work through for the whole year and learn music through movement and games. Keeping their bodies physically fit and active will keep their minds sharp!
