My Project
My project is a year long opportunity to engage my students in enhancing their vocabulary skills, so they will have the knowledge to express themselves at the required grade level and beyond. The items that I have included in my package include word -building games to strengthen vocabulary, word meaning and spelling.
The students that I teach, do very little writing or reading, once they are out of school, and they don't get the opportunity to utilize the words they are studying in everyday situations.
Being able to enrich their vocabulary by playing word building games, they are learning without even realizing it.
The games allow my students the chance to not just build words and vocabulary skills but also enhances peer interaction and socialization.
I have come to realize that with our modern technology, while being a great learning tool, it can also hinder student emotional growth.
Some students never get the opportunity to collaborate with appropriate age groups while using vocabulary to express themselves and their situations.
I use games to enhance the learning of specific vocabulary and spelling skills. The students are able to move across game boards as they answer questions and solve comprehensive situations.
The games will be set up in rotation stations that can be used independently when other assignments have been completed. In some situations, the class assignment will actually be creating paragraphs with the words that an individual or group has created
The use of games in a Reading & Writing class, aids in instruction and classroom management. It provides a social learning environment that has challenges and team building.
