This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are using the headphones to listen to the games they create. We need microphones so that they can create their own sound effects. The headphones we currently have are wearing out. The cords on them are breaking and they quit working. My students find this frustrating.

My students are extremely diverse, with most minorities represented.

We also have a high population of free and reduced lunch students. One of the problems we are having is that students are not being exposed enough to technology at lower grades so they are not considering technology as a career field. By making the game programming class available, I hook students into a technology class that normally wouldn't take one. I try to engage them with as much different technology as possible.

My Project

I believe that the game programming course is going to attract a type of student to computer science that I haven't been able to reach. I was just speaking to another teacher whose son comes to our school. When I have talked to her in the past about computer science, she has not encouraged her students to enroll. However, when I described the game programming class to her, she said "That is right up his alley". I'm hoping that is true for more students. By the way, the student is a minority student that is under represented in technology.

By attracting under-represented people to technology and computer science in particular, we gain a new pool of people to solve problems.

These people should find us new ways to solve problems. By using game programming to attract students, I am hoping to see more students take advantage of our programs.
