Game On: A New Way to Learn

Help me give my students a Nintendo Switch, two extra controllers and two games to use in the library.

My Project

This Nintendo Switch, controllers, and the two Mario games will help students in a myriad of ways. Use of the Nintendo in the library will promote collaborative learning, improve problem solving, critical thinking, support social-emotional learning, boost engagement and motivation, encourage creativity, supports literacy and reading. The Nintendo Switch's flexible controls and game options make it more accessible for students with different needs.

Games like Mario Kart and Super Smash Brothers require teamwork, communication and strategy.

These games also encourage social interaction, especially for students who may struggle in traditional group settings. The games will challenge students to think ahead, plan and adapt, as well as teach students resilience, patience and empathy. The extra controllers will help us to have more options for players, but students will still be working on turn-taking, managing frustration, and working cooperatively through game play.

Incorporating a gaming system can make the library a more inviting space, particularly for reluctant learners or students who feel disconnected from school.
