This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My students are hardworking and resilient community members. As a design teacher, It is my job to make sure that we are excited by the idea that they are the future leaders of tomorrow. My class is focused on designing tomorrow by making equity the fun, inclusive, and-- most importantly-- obvious choice. One of the ways we can achieve this goal, is to educate ourselves on the "who, what, why, and how" of equity work. In one of my units, I chose to use board games, a popular American past time, to do this.

In my board game unit, students choose to design a game to teach something that they believe might bring about equity and change for the better.

We work with books and articles to learn how games work, and what game mechanics we can leverage to make equity work fun. Having game making supplies like cards, boards, spinners, game pieces, dice and card stock would be a valuable addition to our game design unit.
