My students need beads! Our 3rd Grade is promoting focus and hard work with beads. Each time a student passes an iReady lesson in Reading or Math they get "bling"! We need more bling!!
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My goal this year is to provide my students with anything and everything they will need to be successful. For the first time, my students will be assessed on iReady in Reading and Math. This is an online computer program that is geared towards what each student needs.
Our students come from low-income households that require them to take on a lot more than any 8-year-old should have to.
This year because of Hurricane Maria, I have also received many students from Puerto Rico. Because of the daily struggles my students face, I want them to feel like the only thing they have to worry about is being the best student they can be. I want them to feel like they are ready for anything and everything that is thrown at them. I don't want them to look back and feel like their elementary years were frustrating and unfair because the expectations were too high to reach.
My Project
Our 3rd grade has a computer lab that we have decorated like a party. We want the students to be excited to learn - and celebrate successes.
Each time a student passes a computer lesson they can flip a number on the chart and get some beaded bling.
The whole school knows that students that are wearing beads have successfully passed a lesson that day. We thought we would need about 50 beads a week - however, the students are so excited they are passing about 160 lessons a week. Help us keep our students motivated to work on Reading and Math.
More than half of students from low‑income households
