This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
As we move into the 21st century students at the elementary level are playing the game Gaga Ball. Currently at our school, students play this game at recess and use a gazebo for the boundaries. This activity/sport incorporates skills such as striking, dodging, hand-eye coordination, balance, agility, force, and speed. In the world we live in, children are in front of screens all too frequently. The "Gaga ball" craze allows students to get outside, communicate with peers, show good sportsmanship, and stay physically active. Students who exercise regularly have better mental health and emotional well-being, and lower rates of mental illness.
The goal for this project is to allow the students at my school to have an opportunity to play this fun and physically active game both indoors and outdoors.
With a Gaga pit, students will be able to take the skills learned in the gym and implement them during recess in a safe and fun environment.
The students are a very diverse population. Playing host to a bilingual program, a self-contained autistic program, and general education in grades K-5, school is a special place where all students can benefit from this sport and equipment. Differentiation and modifications will be used to ensure the success of all students.
