My Project
Introducing drones to my STEM classes will transform students' learning of physics and aviation by making abstract concepts tangible and engaging. Through hands-on experience with drones, students will explore the fundamental physics of flight, including forces like lift, thrust, drag, and gravity. Observing and adjusting these forces in real-time as they pilot drones helps students see how physics principles govern movement and stability in aviation. Rather than reading or viewing static diagrams, students experience these concepts directly, reinforcing their understanding through practice and experimentation.
Two aviation concept goals for my students include mastering the principles of lift and thrust and understanding the importance of balance and control in flight stability-As they experiment with different drone maneuvers and weight, students will observe how lift keeps objects in the air and how thrust propels them forward.
Additionally, they’ll explore the impact of small adjustments on the drone’s stability and direction, giving them a grasp of the balance and control essential in aviation. These goals provide students with a foundational understanding of how real aircraft operate, paving the way for more advanced STEM learning.
My aviation lessons provide an ideal setting for integrating 21st-century skills, including critical thinking, creativity, collaboration, communication, and digital literacy. By working with tools like drones, building digital literacy that’s essential in today’s tech-driven world. Students will track thier progress and present thier findings as a schoolwide STEM project.
My students are special because they bring boundless curiosity and excitement to every project, eager to explore, learn, and share their discoveries. They approach learning with enthusiasm, helping each other and celebrating each step forward, no matter how small. Their openness to experimentation, coupled with their collaborative spirit, creates a supportive environment where they push one another to succeed, making them not only future scientists but also compassionate team players.
