Do you remember your first dissection? Many students have never dissected yet they are faced with learning body systems. Students cannot appreciate the complexity of the body until it is viewed through hands on activity.
My school is a high poverty school.
Most areas of the country are suffering due to the economy and these students were suffering prior to the dip in the economy. Arkansas is not a rich state but there is a great emphasis on education. My students want to learn, they want an enriched education. Unfortunately, schools are pressed for funding. Our school is one of those; my students need your generosity to enrich their learning experience.
My Project
If I receive the specimens, I will be able to dissect with my students after they learn ten body systems and plant systems. My students will prepare for the dissection by drawing the systems themselves and then completing a virtual dissection. After the virtual dissection, the students will tie all information together with the grand finale of the dissection. Students aha moments occur after the dissection. Students will truly learn and understand the systems after they are seen. Students learn about the internal structures of animals and students learn how the tissues and organs are interrelated.
This donation will provide one of the most memorable and instructive units in science class.
The learning that occurs in a dissection is different from the learning that occurs in a paper and pencil setting. There is not any substitute for hands on dissection. Videos and models are good as a preview but the dissection itself is something students take with them for life.
