This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Our 9th grade Living Environment Classes are an exceptional group of students! Well behaved, eager, and above all curious to learn! As freshmen, it is imperative that we provide them with as many different ways for them to access the material.
As a special educator, I teach in an integrated classroom with students of varying levels and abilities who lean towards kinesthetic learning, so hands-on projects are always the most successful.
Unfortunately, our school rarely has the money to fund specialized science projects.
My Project
During our unit on Ecology, our students go in-depth learning about how humans influence ecosystems, How matter and energy cycle through ecosystems, How changes in resources affect populations in ecosystems, and how living and nonliving parts of the earth interact and affect the survival of organisms. This includes the discussion of food webs and cycles.
Currently, our school has no resources to dedicate to a furnished lab with actual science equipment for our students to experience, so giving them these materials will help them feel and act like scientists!
This Owl Pellet lab will help students with their inquiry and discovery skills while also attributing to the necessary lab hours they need in order to sit for the New York State Regents Exam.
More than three‑quarters of students from low‑income households
Data about students' economic need comes from the National Center for Education Statistics, via our partners at MDR Education. Learn more
