Help me give my students a design and build engineering center and a STEM early learning kit to insure a life long love of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math.
Our school is a NYC Board of Education Initiative. Our program's philosophy is to make Pre-K available to all eligible children. The program is currently in its fourth year. Our District has 18 sites around District 24 which is inclusive of many different neighborhoods such as, Elmhurst, Ridgewood, Sunnyside, Woodside, Glendale, Maspeth and Middle Village, Queens. Our centers host many different students from all parts of the world. There are at least 10 different languages represented in our center alone which is located in the heart of Elmhurst, Queens. Many of our families and students are second language learners. We do our best to enrich their lives with print rich, language supported classroom environments.
My Project
My job as a Pre-k educator is to develop young minds. A portion of our curriculum focuses on science and math skills. These are skills the students will use throughout their academic careers and hopefully after. As part of our school day, students receive 120 minutes of play based center learning. During this time students choose the center they wish to visit.
All of the materials I have submitted for this project are going to help grow and develop students love and knowledge of the STEM world.
The materials I have selected will increase students participation in the science and math centers. The STEM Early Learning Kits and Design & Build Engineering Centers will also help increase their critical and higher order thinking skills which are needed in many science, math and engineering activities. There is no better way to engage a student than with a fun and exciting activity. When the exciting activity can challenge a young mind and foster a love of STEM skills, it's even better!
