My students need a mobile book cart, high quality engaging science and math kits with materials that will help them to have fun while they are learning.
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Students need to be able to explore science and math using hands on activities that will get them out of their seats into an exploration modality. With these new materials, they will discover the joy of experimenting and appreciate how much math and science can impact their lives.
Our school is a primary years program school that is gaining popularity because of our dual curriculum.
The grade level is from kinder to fourth grade. Because of this this inquiry-based approach, the students are learning how to become global citizens. They are very talented in art and music which is evidenced through many awards and recognition from the local to national levels. The children are very lively and kind-hearted towards each other. They are very appreciative of the effort that is put forward to help them learn new things. Many of them are from single parent homes who are often left to take care of their younger siblings. They are resilient will grow up to positively impact the local and global communities. They enjoy learning and discovering new things. For this reason, everyone is very busy creating learning activities that are relevant, significant, and engaging that will motivate to want to become life-long learners.
My Project
The book cart will hold my special internationally-minded books that will be used to help the students explore the assigned unit of inquiry. The students will be able to move the books on the cart to different parts of the room as needed. The experiments will be used when students are working in small groups as well as independently. The students will work in groups of fives and take turns working at different stations that will house the various kits that will be setup around the classroom. The children will be able to move from one station to the next for multiple engagement with the materials. Students will extend their learning using these materials by finding real world connections as companions. All of the these materials will keep the children fully engaged in their learning. After reviewing how we will take care of our new materials, I will invite the parents and the school community to see how these new materials impacted the science and math lab.
STEM (Science, technology, engineering and math) education is the catalyst that can change the lives of children living in poverty.
We can raise up a new generation that can change the course of our country if we take time to believe that children from Title 1 schools can to given a first class education. We can show them that we believe in them by creating great engaging lessons with these materials. Our science/math lab will never be the same if we get these materials.
