Future Poets Need Poetry Journals...Can You Help?

My students need 60 Poetry Journals and 60 Daily Reading Response Journals.

This project is fully funded

I teach a general education first grade class that includes English Language Learners, as well as children with various levels of achievement. Before school I also teach extra math and language arts classes for 3rd, 4th, and 5th Graders who need a little bit more practice with certain skills. If that weren't enough, I also teach after school classes for other first and second graders that are not in my regular class during the day. Our student population is high need and very diverse.

Most of us think poetry and cringe. However, there are just as many of us that hear the word poetry and are delighted! I am hoping to expose my children to as much poetry as possible. I have a deep love for poetry and I would love to share that love with my students. We currently read one poem a week and use it to learn new sight words, but I would like to take the study further!

We are getting ready to start a Poetry unit and we need new journals to write our masterpieces. We will be reading and writing poetry over the next few months and we would love to have special poetry journals to work with. The journals we are asking for have a poem on one side of the book and a place to write a response to the poem on the other side of the book. There are also places to write your own poetry! We would also love some Daily Reading Journals to write responses to the books we read everyday. Comprehension is a huge part of reading and writing about a book helps it tremendously!
