My Students
This is my third year at a high needs school in the School District of Philadelphia. Our school is located in a high poverty area; therefore, we do not have as many resources and supplies. My students come to school to feel safe and learn. The home life that most of my students live is not easy and they have to worry about when they will eat again, where they will sleep, etc. This project would help my students be able to learn in an environment where they can forget about what is going on in the outside world and feel safe and enjoy school. These supplies will add to our classroom and make them excited and eager to learn!
My Project
My students are struggling with place value and how to represent ones, tens, and hundreds. These items will help them in small group and whole group lessons. The cubes will be amazing for the students to be able to represent their strategies along with their answers, especially with regrouping tens and ones. Students at this age need the hands-on aspect when learning difficult concepts. This gives the students a chance to try different strategies and understand what they are learning and build on it. These items will guide the students to success when completing addition and subtraction with different place values.
