Help me give my students access to microscopes, digital scales, and headphones for science and exposure to wonderful literature circle books ranging in a variety of genres!
I teach a 5th grade class in a small town in Utah. While our families and community have shown support during our new teaching and learning experiences, like everyone in the country, COVID has hit out sweet students with challenges. As a teacher, I have strived to focus on the love for learning!
My students work hard every day and love hands-on learning.
My goal is to provide them with learning experiences that deepen their understanding and gives rich exposure to various uses of materials. I am so grateful to teach them and have the daily opportunity to impact their lives.
My Project
My students are some of the hardest-working kids I have seen. It has been such a joy to help them learn and understand that it is okay if they make mistakes. When they push forward and try their best, they are able to gain confidence in their abilities and strengthen their resolve!
Through the challenges that COVID and at-home learning days (sometimes, given with a one-day notice) have given, my group of 5th graders have shown resiliency and perseverance through challenging times.
As I was thinking what my students would need the most to help them succeed, my mind immediately went to our new science core and updated language arts program.
The microscopes, headphones, and digital scales I have requested will aid greatly in my science lessons covering physical and chemical changes, with awesome videos that students will be able to watch and listen to, along with content covering the conservation of matter. The sets of books I have chosen are rich in text and vocabulary exposure and will provide new learning opportunities for my literature circle groups.
