Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
We have an outstanding school in a large urban area. The teachers here work tirelessly to bring engaging, fun activities to enhance our curriculum. Because of the numerous budget cuts, we have had to seek funding for the "extras" that the kids absolutely love.
Our students rock!
Even though we have over 1,000 elementary students, our school has a "family" feeling to it. The staff is great and works very hard to encourage the students to become successful members of society. Many of the students come from homes where many of their basic needs aren't met. We strive to give them the love and confidence they need to survive. Theirs is a difficult world, but we know that with enough help, love, and guidance; they will have a bright future.
My Project
The students in this class choose "Google For All" as their first choice in an elective of over 15 different classes! In this class students learn the entire Google platform, as well as learning about Google and the incredible opportunities that are available in STEM careers within their corporation. These students are going on to take Coding next semester, and my goal is to expose these students of color to the fabulous career paths that are available to them.
STEM opportunities abound at Google!
Not only are there STEM careers but others that Google can offer, including marketing, sales, and advertising, just to name a few!
I want my students to witness firsthand the many STEM careers that are available when they speak face to face with the different individuals at Google. This trip to Google Headquarters could easily motivate them to pursue a rewarding career in the exciting world of technology at the place that Fortune Magazine voted the #1 company to work for in the world!! Upon returning from the field trip the students will create a wall mural decapitating all of the information they learned while on their field trip.
