This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Are you Green? This doesn't mean are you an alien! No, it means are you on board with the Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle global movement! Every year, second grade teachers plant the seed on how to be part of the solution and not part of the deterrents that pollute our world. This time I need your help!

My students are smart, driven, and very verbal.

They are 95% Hispanic and 5% African American. Most of them do not have a computer or other technology at home. Our school provides a safe environment away from gangs and other socioeconomic limitations. They are exposed to violence and socioeconomic limitations, like lack of food, that others take for granted. In my classroom, they get to dream because the sky is the limit. They've planned future traveling plans, designed their dream homes, and have become celebrated community heroes. The classroom is a safe haven where dreaming high is encouraged. Nothing is impossible when they dream, write, and share their future plans. They would thrive as enthusiastic learners if they are provided with the memories that will last a lifetime. They will experience and recollect their memories in a whole new way.

My Project

Our districts are in tied budgets and when that happens technology takes a back seat. As result, our schools do not have the sufficient technology in the classrooms. We have an outdated computer lab that services close to 1300 students. We only go every other week and half the time the computers do not work. We are piloting a Project Based Learning Program in which our students do research about different topics that contribute to environmental pollution. All of our second grade classes are recycling and looking for ways that our students and community will reduce trash and reuse recyclable resources. We need an iPad to continue our research from our classroom. An iPad can be placed anywhere in the classroom from which my students can do research from. Just imagine the countless resources we can find without even leaving our classroom and waiting for our turn at the computer lab. Our class can also download books to read and begin the process of going paperless to avoid deforestation.

I need your help to help me fund an iPad which will no doubt will enhance my students' research methods.

I will make sure that my students are knowledgeable about the three R's: Reuse, Reduce, and Recycle. Furthermore, with this project in place, our whole school and community will benefit from it. Please help us get an iPad for our future environmentalists.
