My Students
My students are mixed ability and amazing. They come from varying backgrounds but come together as a lively bunch of curious learners. The girls are outnumbered fifteen to eight, but they hold their own. I have two students who have recently immigrated (one as a refugee and the other because Hurricane Maria destroyed his home) and are learning English for the first time. I have students with autism, learning disabilities and attention deficit disorder. They are my Blue Suede Paws and are our fantastic future.
My Project
Children love LEGO. My students are children who love LEGO and Science. This LEGO Simple and Powered Machine set will enable my students to think and act like engineers. With the kit, they can design, create, and utilize pulleys, motors, levers, wedges, wheels and axles. They will also study the history behind these clever tools. To create these amazing inventions (the original STEM), students have to follow engineering drawings: an invaluable skill. The kit comes with a curriculum pack that will help me create fascinating problem-solving activities in my classtoom. Problem-solving helps my students to become critical thinkers and to work their way through the Engineering Design Process. These skills will help my students in life, school, and career.
