This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

As a student did you wonder why you have to have a #2 pencil for your test? Was there any other kind of pencil and what is its purpose? I intend for my students to unlock this mystery and become proficient in the art of pencil drawing.

I teach at a 6-8 Middle School in a low socio-economic area.

Most student have little access to the arts and when they do it is in the classroom setting. I want to give my students a top notch art education experience parallel to other schools in more affluent ares.

My Project

My students will be learning about the various graphite pencils and their hardness and softness. They will use the media to create pencil drawing of various intensities, with by the way is a Visual and Performing Art standard for middle school grades. They will use the manikins as reference to observe light and shadow. The Pencil drawing book I am requesting will be used to enforce curriculum. Later on my students will move on to colored pencil. This drawing unit will be completed by January 1.

Would Mickey Mouse exist had Walt Disney not been afforded the opportunity to learn about pencil drawing in art class?

Who knows, the next great animator, painter, architect, or sculpture may just be a child in my class who got their start with the materials you generously provided.
