Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
For generations children have loved to play with blocks. My first graders are no different. These blocks will offer them new challenges and excitement.
My first graders speak many different languages (Spanish, Vietnamese, Arabic, and more) and their families come from all over the world.
They, however, don't see any differences between themselves. They are all first graders learning and playing together.
Our school is Title I. About 75% of our students receive free or reduced price lunches.
My Project
At six children still need a lot of time to play. We make sure we have opportunities in our school day to play while still learning things that fit in our curriculum. Blocks like these will allow my students opportunities to play, explore, and build while learning math and science concepts.
Blocks of all sorts are popular with first graders.
These, with their bright colors and unusual shapes, will be especially desirable. They are made to last and will be used by students for years to come. Through them we will explore math and science concepts as well as architectural and spatial ideas.
