My students need 4 text books to help me grow as an educator, create better parent-teacher relationships and a better learning environment. I also need 2 read alouds.
"A positive parent-teacher relationship helps your child feel good about school and be successful in school," advises Diane Levin, Ph.D., professor of education at Wheelock College.
I teach a diverse group of 25 fifth graders in a northern Virginia neighborhood.
It is also an inclusive classroom, meaning some of my students have individualized education plans in order for the special education teacher and I to meet their needs in the classroom. I have a handful of students who battle with attention deficit disorder and need frequent breaks in order to stay on task and even I need a break from teaching in order to regain some energy. The energizer book will help solve this problem. The two read alouds will help me teach the students about expectations at the start of the year. One is about having hopes and dreams and the other is about the importance of treating other with kindness and the invisible bucket we all carry around. I use both books each and every year with all age groups because they are so powerful and my students always enjoy them.
My Project
Education is a never ending cycle of learning, implementing, and reflecting. I think it is important to always further your education in order to be even more successful. Each year before I begin a new school year, I reflect upon the previous school year in order to help me set new personal and professional goals. These text books will help me reach those personal and professional goals. One of the particular text books will help me to implement brain breaks in order to energize my students, which is a vital important of classroom instruction. After sitting through a boring test or even just sitting in their seat for an hour can be very draining, so I like to take a quick break to get their blood flowing again. This book will give me directions of examples to use in with them. I will also learn new methods as to how to create better parent-teacher relationships and increase the language I use in the classroom. All of the text books will ultimately affect the classroom community.
"A teacher affects eternity; he can never tell where his influence stops."
~Henry Brooks Adams
These books will help me to make an even larger difference in the lives of my students.
