My students need a few more displays of prominent minority American leaders, a pencil sharpener, an organizer and other classroom materials to succeed.

My Students
My students are fantastic! They come from a variety of different backgrounds, as diverse as California itself. We have a healthy balance of young people that helps foster a strong community of learning.
Students are growing more and more invested in social studies because of our country's political climate.
That gives me an unbelievable teaching opportunity in my first year on the job. I'm dedicated to foster their growth into future leaders. Leaders who are strong, knowledgeable, and respectful critical thinkers who powerfully advocate for their communities.
My Project
Thanks to three generous donors, my first project got funded in less than an hour! I'm flabbergasted and grateful, but also realized I'd love for others to have a chance to give. There are a few other things I realized I could really use for my classroom, including other posters displays and various classroom supplies such as a pencil sharpener and an organizer.
I want my students to be inspired and empowered by people they can identify with on the walls of my classroom.
I think it's more important than ever to make sure young people feel connected to the material, consider our country's current climate. With that said, I believe what's displayed will have a big impact on students' learning. Martin and Coretta should be on the walls with Abe. So should Rosa, Maya Angelou, and Cesar Chavez. It's really easy to put up maps, a few old documents, and old white Presidents on display for students to see, then call it a day. I want more than that. I want my students to see our classroom's walls and feel included, to know that someone like them can achieve big things in this world.
