Furniture Goes a Long Way in a Classroom

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach a group of versatile and enthusiastic second graders this year. We are in the Hmong DI (dual immersion) program, where we learn 50 % in Hmong and 50% in English. This makes learning more challenging as the learning for both languages are cut in half and the students are from the lower socioeconomic background. However, we still cope and thrive in our classroom.

We work as a team and support one another.

In class, we learn about our strengths and weaknesses. The best thing is we all help foster one another where our gaps are and always close those gaps. Students learn to problem solve and take ownership of their learning. Through learning in a variety of ways, we are able to meet the needs of the dynamic students this year.

My Project

The reason why I wanted to specifically create this project is because my students and I struggle with this every day. We have no furniture in the classroom besides desks and chairs.

The two cubbies will go a LONG way because it will be used to organize a classroom library, a storage place for backpacks, and winter jackets, ultimately eliminating unnecessary distractions.

With your help, we can finally eliminate these distractions like daily backpacks and sweaters or jackets falling on the floor. We can finally learn without having to worry about messy leveled books at the back, which the students must access weekly and I have to swap out often due to lack of storage space.

Thank you SO MUCH. This is be a forever funiture in my classroom and it will help every year.
