My Project

New storage and flexible seating will help equip my classroom space for my special education students. We need new cube seats, storage, and flexible seating to create a learning space that invites independence, allows everyone to join group activities, and meet individual needs while completing seatwork. We currently do not have enough seats for all my students to sit together during morning meeting and whole group activities. It is a challenge for my special education students to sit safely on the rug or on a standard student chair. The cube style chair provides stability, helps students learn personal boundaries, and allows opportunities for our class community to work together. A new bookcase and storage containers will provide a specific place for materials that students will need throughout the day. When materials are accessible and organized daily, it facilitates confidence and independence for each student. Having flexible seating available will provide another opportunity for my students to have choice and build their independence when completing their work.

My students have diverse needs and deserve to have access to an environment that will create a welcoming community and build their independence.

I know that with these new materials our classroom with build stronger connections, learn new things, and increase student independence.
