Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Our school is a teeny tiny hidden gem of a public school located in the Hamilton Heights section of Manhattan (between Harlem and Washington Heights). This is a sweet school for many reasons, including a diverse school population, a school-wide focus on social justice, and a commitment to children's social-emotional intelligence.
A colleague was recently asked, "Why are you always smiling?" Happy kids make for happy teachers!
Help us be happier kids and teachers--along with a small school comes a small budget. Sometimes our school runs out of supplies and falls short on programming and field trip opportunities. Our furniture is falling apart too. We don't want to let these kids down.
My Project
As you know from my campaign a few months ago (see pictures from my past project), my second graders are exploring and moving around our classroom all day long. We learn on the rug, work at our seats, and collaborate in partnerships/groups. We are diverse learners and we are very flexible!
We have a new problem now--our class grew by 6 students and we need more furniture!
A typical class size in our school is 25 students. By adding a new set of chairs and two mini-desks, we will have enough flexible furniture for everyone in the class for many years to come. I am also asking for a horseshoe table which will assist with small group work and conferencing. When teachers push in to help students with disabilities and English language learners, this will also be extremely helpful.
With your help, we can complete our state-of-the-art flexible classroom! Please help us to continue to increase our mobility and open a world of options for us!
