My Students
What do you do when you are outside your comfort zone? Do you quit or do you persevere? My students buckle down, work hard and get it done! The amazing students in my AP Statistics class have elected to take this rigorous college level data analysis class while still in high school.
These students inspire me every day.
Virtually all come from households below or at the poverty level; virtually all are African-American or Hispanic. And every single one of these scholars plans to attend and graduate from college. They have drive. They understand that a quality education is the key to future success and upward mobility. They are studying their little hearts out daily. To make up for gaps in their knowledge, we meet after school and on Saturdays weekly. These students are willing to devote the extra time to this course in order to succeed and perform well enough on the Advanced Placement exam in May 2016 to earn college credit.
My Project
The EZ Statistics 101 books are an excellent review source for students in this course. The book provides a nice summation of the curriculum topics that we cover in this course. The more affluent parents of my students' peers purchase these types of resources for their children. My obtaining these books via Donorschoose, I hope to level the playing field.
The ink for our classroom printer will allow my students to print out homework and project submissions since they do not necessarily have access to a computer and/or printer at home. The staplers will allow my students to compile multi-page documents document and stay organized. The healthy snacks will keep my students alert when we meet after school to continue learning.
These students deserve the same environment and resources as their peers in the suburbs.
Their zip code should not determine their trajectory. Please help me to help them become all they are capable of.
