Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are very enthusiastic learners! Our school is a very supportive and nurturing learning environment for students. We have many students who are English language learners, and more than half of the population is low-income.
My students are eager to learn despite any obstacles that they may face.
They are always excited to try something new and are enthusiastic to learn about the world around them. Second graders are really just finding themselves as readers and are very proud, enthusiastic readers.
My Project
One of our state standards for Language Arts is reading and then retelling folktales from other cultures. We also learn about reading the same story from different points of view.
These books have engaging stories and interesting illustrations that will keep the students begging to read more.
Because many of the students know traditional fairy tales, these books will get them thinking about how other characters view the same events.
Each year when I teach this standard, I borrow many of these books from our public library. It would be so helpful to have these books in our classroom library so that the students can go back and read them again throughout the school year.
More than half of students from low‑income households
Data about students' economic need comes from the National Center for Education Statistics, via our partners at MDR Education. Learn more
