This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

Most of the students in our club have not traveled more than 25 miles outside of our city. Last year we were able to take three students on a trip to Reno, Nevada. And now our Travel Club (called Going Places!) has gained popularity.

There are 15 students in the club this year, and they want to get out into the world to see and experience places they’ve never been.

Isn’t that what traveling is all about? Monterey would be the perfect car trip from San Francisco. They’ll be able to visit the famous Monterey Bay Aquarium and Cannery Row. But the cost of motel rooms alone will be a significant, so we need to fundraise.

The students have decided that they want to sell hot chocolate in the mornings to make money. In addition to teaching them about time management (arriving extra early to set-up), the activity of fundraising will teach them about profit and cost analysis. They'll need to track our inventory and determine how to price the items to sell in order to make the most profit. Additionally, they will develop their marketing and promotion skills to bring student "customers" to purchase hot chocolate in the mornings.

We are graciously asking for your support to purchase K-cups and other supplies for their sale so that they can learn these valuable financial lessons to budget for our trip.

The fundraising is just one part of this opportunity. The trip itself might be a life-changing experience for some students. Learning about travel and their value in this world empowers them to strive for a better future. And who doesn’t want our young people to strive and thrive?
