This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

I teach 8th grade physical science in a high-need community. My class is a very active and exciting classroom environment. My students know that at least once a week they will be conducting some type of inquiry based investigation. They get excited when the see graduated cylinders, beakers, and other science equipment. They know they are going to appy what they have been learning to an actual experiment.

When students walk into the classroom room and they see various science equipment out the typically yell "oh yes, we are doing an experiment today". When the see the scale they know they are measuring something. We try to do a science investigation every week. Since our class is physical science we have the need to measure the mass of SOMETHING!

Currently we only have 3 portable balances. Students often need to wait until one becomes available. If they have to wait too long, they get distracted. More scales allow the students to work through an investigation quicker and allows us more time to discuss their findings later.

You help will allow my students to conduct their science investigations faster and more efficiently. These scales will be used every week. In our class our philosophy is "We learn science by doing science".
