This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My project is to help my students learn the basics of financial literacy.

My students earn classroom cash by completing assignments, showing citizenship and exhibiting positive behaviors.

The store has small items, like juice, chips and cookies, but I want to teach my students how to save for their preferred big-ticket items.

The students get paid for working in our high school's coffee shop and our cafeteria. The students are responsible for their own payroll. They clock in/out for the coffee shop, as well as the cafeteria, and get paid with classroom cash, every two weeks. The store is open every Friday.

The big ticket items will give my students opportunities to save their money, as opposed to spending all their earned money every Friday. I quadruple the actual price and the students have to calculate that as well. We round to the nearest dollar and multiply by four.

The portable chargers will cost $216 in classroom cash. The earbuds will cost $136 in classroom cash, and the Bluetooth speaker will cost $120 in classroom cash.
