My students need a kidney-shaped table where they can sit together in a small group to learn various reading strategies.
FULLY FUNDED! Ms. Pitts's classroom raised $307

My Students
My students walk into the classroom with different learning needs and learning styles. It has become my daily goal to reach every student. This requires a small group setting in which they can feel comfortable and can reach their maximum potential. Small group interactions are fundamental!
My class consists of 20 vibrant 2nd graders who attend a Title One school.
They come from a variety of ethnic and socioeconomic backgrounds. Our class is lively and eager to learn. We absolutely love to read and write about anything and everything. There is never a dull moment in our classroom. The majority of my students come from military families. Thankfully, their mothers and fathers serve our country unselfishly daily. Their parents are deployed for some or all of the school year. I try to provide them with structure and routines at school to keep that portion of their lives consistent.
My Project
We will use the kidney table for small group reading/language instruction and much more. With the use of a kidney table, my students will be able to stay engaged and focused in a small group setting. I will be able to give my students remediation/acceleration during any given lesson so they can reach their fullest potential. Also, this kidney table will promote peer learning. Students will be able to learn from one another and help them communicate effectively as well. Furthermore, it will enhance conferencing time. It will allow me to sit one on one with my students and set weekly goals. We will be able to conference about what's working and what needs improvement. Through the implementation of the kidney table, they will learn that the classroom environment is a partnership. We need each other to achieve. Lastly, it will help me reinforce our class motto: "Fair is not getting what you want; fair is getting what you need to be successful."
A kidney table within my classroom will enhance our classroom and how I interact with my students.
It will allow me to focus on the individual needs of each student within the classroom. By focusing on the individual needs of each student, my students will be able to reach their maximum potential.
