Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I have been a literacy coach for several years and recently have been assigned to support at risk students in grades K-2. I will be working with level 1 and 2 students and will provide these students remediation lessons, specifically in reading.

I service students in a high needs area in the South Bronx.

Most of the students are either English Language Learners, Students with Disabilities, and/or struggling academically. Our principal would like to provide students in the early grades the opportunity to master reading foundational skills before entering the third grade. Our students in the primary grades are eager to learn and enjoy working in small groups and we hope to foster a learning environment where the advancement of student learning occurs. As a result, our young students will develop a love for reading that transcends beyond their academic lives.

My Project

With the fulfillment of this proposal I will have the necessary resources to engage students in guided reading lessons that are engaging. Students will have the opportunity to use the dry erase boards and markers to practice word work activities. The caddy will allow be to travel from one classroom to another, with the materials I need to conduct quality guided reading lessons.

As a literacy coach I support new teachers and gave away a lot of my own materials.

If this project is funded it will allow me to create interactive lessons that will allow students to build their reading skills. I will be able to organize material in an efficient manner to ensure I have all the resources accessible to me to ensure my lesson goals are met.
