Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
The school I work in is in a low-income area. The families are either living in public housing or in shelters. The school itself allows for the scholars to have ample opportunities with the arts and technology. My students are absolutely amazing. They are hard-working and sweet. There is a sense of family in my classroom. My class is a general education classroom. The scholars are on all different academic levels that range from pre-emergent to above grade level. School supplies are difficult to come by. Most supplies are supplied by myself. I try to make our classroom a fun place to learn.
We will be coming back to school full-time after a year of online learning.
This year will be a challenge getting the students prepared to fulfill the duties of an at-school learner. This year more than any other, teachers need to find engaging activities for the students.
My Project
Scholastic News magazines will be used to enhance the science and social studies curriculum that we currently use in our classroom. These magazines are a way of making real-world connections with topics that are occurring at the moment. It allows students to keep up with the current events that are occurring at the moment as well as learn about the significance of certain holidays. The students will enjoy reading on-level nonfiction passages. There are also comprehension activities that coincide with passages that they have just read either in the form of multiple-choice questions or activities.
Nearly all students from low‑income households
Data about students' economic need comes from the National Center for Education Statistics, via our partners at MDR Education. Learn more
