Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My classroom is a resource room where I provide special education services for my students. Most of them come to my room either once or twice a day in order to receive extra lessons in either reading, math or both subjects. I would like for my students to have hands on materials to practice phonics.
My students are special education students living in the inner city.
Many of my students are English Language Learners and they are all reading below grade level. Many of them require additional lessons in phonics in order to aid with their decoding skills.
My Project
My students need a Phonemic Awareness Learning Center Set and a Phonics Magnetic Word Building Boards set in order to help them develop phonics skills necessary for reading. My students will use these materials in order to help them with remedial phonics skills. Many of my students struggle with decoding strategies which are necessary for reading. These materials will help my students learn strategies such as decoding long vowels in magic e and vowel teams, consonant Digraphs and r controlled vowels, necessary to aid in their reading skills.
Any donations made to this project will improve my classroom by supplying us with more hands on materials for my students.
I have limited supplies in my classroom and I know that many of my students learn best through hands on experiences. By providing activities such as phonics puzzles and magnet board phonics games, rather than just using worksheets, my students can work on the decoding skills in a fun and engaging manner and hopefully apply the skills they learn to their reading.
