Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Our students have limited space and materials for recess time at our school. Because of these limitations, many of them find themselves unhappy or in conflict. Having educational games at recess will give them the opportunity to play together and collaborate.
Our students are third through fifth graders at a public school in a high poverty neighborhood.
Our student population is a beautifully rich and diverse mix of cultures and languages. Over 90% of our students receive free or reduced price lunch. Because of the neighborhood in which they grow up, they need school to be a safe learning environment that offers both challenges and an outlet for creativity. When they are given the opportunity, they constantly surprise their teachers with their ingenuity and brilliant ideas!
My Project
We are requesting various educational games such as Lego sets,Math cards, and Snap Circuits. For play time to be a success, students need a variety of ways to participate and express themselves, in creative ways. The activities focus on science, math and the arts.
When students are given the opportunity to express their thoughts through various mediums, they are able to stretch their thinking. This allows the students to use their time more effectively. The games at recess will give students an opportunity to collaborate and communicate with peers in a unique way. This will help to strengthen their social-emotional well being and will build their imagination.
In a time when bullying is common in schools throughout the country, we want to promote more positive interactions among our students, especially during their play time.
Please fund our project so we can provide structured play that allows students to put their energy toward a creative end.
