"New York Creative Art Class" has the desire to use felt, foam, and feathers to make their art projects come alive. I am the Art Special Education Teacher of a Title One school beginning a brand new art program following the "Blueprints for the Arts" program. I teach all grades from pre-K to 5th, including classes that are of mixed populations with 60% General Education and 40% Special Education, often referred to as integrated classes. I am starting off with limited art supplies due to budget cuts and am in desperate need of supplies to make creative art pieces.
This art program consists of five strands that tie in the subjects of art history, math, science and language arts. It's based on opening the students' minds to culture and community and connecting it to the core subjects. Art needs to be connected to real life for most of our students, and there is a high need for hands on activities. I show these students how to make collages, masks, puppets and how to draw. If I don't have the materials to use to do this, then I'm not going to be able to give them what they deserve to learn. My students are very interested in making collages, and if we had the felt, foam, feathers, googly eyes, and storage containers for their desks (to put all the little pieces in), we would succeed.
Felt, foam and feathers would be used in a lot of projects. My pre-K students love to glue things on to paper. Special Education, General Education, young students as well as the fifth graders, all love to play with art. If we had the felt, foam, and feathers we would have fun, fun, fun! We would also be applying it to all subjects and we would be learning as well.
Your help is badly needed to ensure that my students get a healthy creative education. More and more schools are understanding how important it is to bring the arts back to our school system, and are doing so. In order to have these programs work and succeed for all of our population and grades, we need the materials. Donors like you make it possible for our children to succeed in our school system, and we are forever grateful to you. Please help my school with this new art program by purchasing these items. Any amount would help and be appreciated. With your help it's possible for my students to excel in the arts. Thanks for all the things you do!
