This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I am an art teacher in an urban, public, elementary school. I have 600 students, grades pre-kindergarten through eighth grade. This project is for my 60 5th grade students.
My students love art and are excited about art class. Unfortunately, as a public school we do not have the money to purchase books about art. My students need these books to see pictures of modern art and to read about the artists. My 5th grade students are very interested in the few art books that I own, but we need many copies so they can all learn about art.
Modern art is so exciting. This book, "Make it Pop!", has pictures of modern "Pop" artists and tells about the artists' lives. I would like to have enough copies of this book so that all of my students can look at it and learn together. We will make art projects inspired by the book. For example, we will make work inspired by Roy Lichtenstein, Andy Warhol, Robert Rauschenberg, Jasper Johns, Claes Oldenburg, and George Segal.
Your help will make it possible for my my students to have access to books filled with information about modern art and artists. These books will be the inspiration for my students to make their own modern art. It is so important for children to have access to information. They will gain an understanding and appreciation for art and artists.
