My students need the land of learning games, a magnetic numbers and counters set, addition puzzle cards, letter word building cards, and a TV Teacher Number Beats DVD.

My Students

Isn't it more fun to learn when you're actively engaged? The students in my class are 4-5 year olds with disabilities. Their disabilities include autism, emotional disturbances, learning disabilities, and speech and language disabilities. Hands on, multi-sensory activities are needed to motivate.

My students attend a title 1 school, where all students receive free breakfast and lunch daily.

The school is located in a high needs area and it is near impossible to obtain the necessary materials to meet their needs due to budget cuts. Despite their disabilities the students in my class are motivated to learn. Hands on, multi-sensory activities are needed to engage the students in the learning. The use of games, DVD's, and puzzle activities will make it easier for my students to participate in the same curriculum as their nondisabled peers, while making the learning hands on and fun, which in turn makes it more meaningful.

My Project

These resources will have a huge impact on the students in my class. They are motivated to learn but due to their disabilities do not learn the same way as their non disabled peers. They benefit from multi sensory hands on materials, which are difficult to obtain. Your donation will help to make their learning more meaningful and long lasting. Research shows that when learning is hands on there is a greater retention rate of the material. "A hands-on learning environment can quite often stimulate a student to learn as much as possible. If there is a challenging task to complete, a student's appetite for learning can show a marked increase. Students can often be empowered in their own learning situation as a result." Your help can make this possible for the students in my class.

This project is so important to me because of the direct impact it will have on the students in my current class but also because the materials will be shared by so many other students as well.

This is only the second year that there are primary grade students in this school building and due to the budget cuts our students do not have the needed materials to make the learning meaningful. Our school is in desperate needs of hands on activities for our students.
