My students need some engaging and skill-building activities to help us through the cold months of indoor recess days.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Friendships, Greek gods, insects, immigrants, and activists...these are a few of the topics that my second graders and I will investigate this year. I am excited to guide them through these explorations and participate in their growth as readers, writers, artists, storytellers, and individuals.
Our goal as a bilingual second grade community is to foster our students' development linguistically, academically, culturally, socially, and emotionally.
We want our learning environment to be a supportive, collaborative, and engaging space, where students can develop their individual voices and have the confidence to share their thoughts and ideas.
As a teacher, I constantly grow and learn with my students, as together we explore new worlds, new skills, and new relationships. This wondrous process can occur anywhere and anytime, but with the necessary supports, it can be more fluid and constant, laying the foundations for lifelong engagement in learning and discovery.
My Project
I would like to transform our indoor recess time into a time of creativity, growth, and discovery. During the cold Northeast winters, daily indoor recess can be quite challenging for students. With our limited classroom space, physical activity is not always possible, so I like to use the time for students to explore their interests. My students love to draw, paint, and create, and I would like indoor recess to provide them with new activities and tools to develop those skills. I am placing particular focus on fine motor skills (origami, drawing, painting, beading) and spatial skills (puzzles, construction). I would like students to look forward to this special time, while also ensure that it's contributing to their growths.
