We are a blessed group of students. Our children are all between the ages of 3 and 4 years old. They have all been diagnosed with different disabilities. All of them have goals related to fine motor and social skills. They have trouble using their hands to grip items such as cars, small building blocks, and crayons. The majority of our students are autistic, downs, and are medically fragile; and they require a lot of different activities. Most of them live in low-income apartment households.
With our children having a large range of disabilities, hands-on learning is very important.
Many of our students are non-verbal and have limited mobility. They get really excited when they can work to accomplish a learning task. Since most of our students are working virtually we are in need of getting items to help them with different ways of reaching math counting goals. Also when our students return face to face we will have to have extra manipulative items so that we can provide them with their own set. Our students with their parents have done a wonderful job of staying focused and working with what little they have to help reach their goals.
My Project
Our children are trying to reach their math goals. They will be able to use these items to count 1 to 1 correspondence. When we show a number on the virtual screen they will have items to count out the number.
The light-up manipulative's will help our children to count, sort, and use light up items to make patterns.
When out students return face to face the light up table will be a center that we can allow one student to work at. This will help to social distance our children.
Our students will need many different math centers so that we can place them in single person groups. The different items will give us a large variety of math groups. Each group will need to be cleaned daily before reuse.
Nearly all students from low‑income households
